Until last week, when applying for Unpaid Leaves on sumHR’s online leave management system, it was mandatory to select an existing leave type (for example, Sick Leave, Casual Leave, etc.) and then mark it as "Unpaid Leave" while applying/approving the application. Most of you, our customers, gave feedback that this causes lot of confusion and irritation on both, the employee side as well as Manager/HR side. Hence, we took that feedback into consideration for our leave management system and built a totally different leave type itself - dedicated to Unpaid Leaves.

There's even a specific page in your Leave Settings section to modify/configure customization for the Unpaid Leaves of your company.

So, from now on, whenever employees wish to apply for an Unpaid Leave or if a Manager approves a normal leave (non-unpaid leave) as Unpaid, our system will automatically count it as an Unpaid Leave type.

Configuration Options inside Unpaid Leave settings:

1. Unpaid Leave Name: Here you can define what you'd like to call the Unpaid Leave type as. For example, Leave Without Pay or LWP or LOP, etc.

2. Intervening Rules: You can choose to count Weekly Offs or Public Holidays as Unpaid Leaves too, if they happen to fall within the unpaid leave duration

3. Past-Dated Leaves: Choose whether you'd like to allow employees to apply for past-dated Unpaid Leaves.

4. Half-Day Leaves: You can allow or disallow half-days while applying for Unpaid Leaves.

Here's the modified leave application form below:
